Run along the best trails of Iceland

Þórsgata Volcano Trail Run will be held in Þórsmörk Nature Reserve for the 11th consecutive time on the 7th of September 2024. The annual race is now one of the most popular trail runs for local runners in Iceland and marks the end of the trail running summer for many runners.

Registration fees are as follows

12 km

Registrations until June 30: ISK 7,900

Registrations from July 1st - September 7th: ISK 8,900

Registrations from September 8 - September 10: ISK. 12,900

4.5 km

Registrations until June 30: ISK 2,900

Registration will close at 18:00 on hlaup.is on the 6th of September and at 11:00 on the 7th of September at the Volcano Huts.

Included

Included in the participation fee is timing chip, access to showers, sauna and small sitting pool after the race.

Start

12 KM | Þórsgata Trail Description

The route: The race is into Húsadalur on the way up Laugavegur. When coming up from Húsadalur, turn right towards Langidalur campand follow the path up to Slyppugilshrygg and along it until the path goes down to Slyppugilið. Then turn left towards Tindfjallaslétta and then down Stangarháls to Stóraendi. From there, run along Krossáraurar to Langidalur and head up Valahnúkur (275 m ascent) and down again to the west to the end of Húsadalur.

4,5 KKM | Valahnúkur Trail Description

The route: The run is into Húsadalur and from there you enter a path that leads to Langidalur. When you get to Langadalur, head up Valahnúkur (275 m ascent) and down again on the west side to the end in Húsadalur. The route is suitable both for those who want to cross quickly and also for those who want to take a light jog or walk.

Delivery of the race bib

Further information on the delivery of bib numbers will be available in Reykjavík on the 8th of September as well as on the location on racing day. Further information will be available and posted here and on the race Facebook site.

Getting there

Please note that you will have to get a bus to get here as you will have to cross unbridged rivers on the way.

Bus departs from BSI bus station in Reykjavík at 7:00 am and at 16:00.

Bookings for a bus ticket to and from the race is available here on this website.

Please note that you need an F-Road approved 4x4 vehicle to get to Krossá River.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded for the first three places for men and women. Special Race Number lottery will take place at the prize ceremony.

Instead of awarding a participation prize (medal), a corresponding amount will be awarded to the Volcano Trails environmental fund for the construction, marking and maintenance of hiking and running trails in Þórsmörk.

Further information

Track guards will be at selected locations along the way. The path is clear most of the way and the path is marked with flags.

Drinking stations are not available along the racecourse.

Clean and safe to drink water flows in streams here and there along the route. You can reach down and take a sip or fill your water bottle.

The race is held by Volcano Trails in Húsadalur Þórsmörk in collaboration with Hlaupár.

The Þórsgata Volcano Trail is available for runners of any experience. We encourage people to bring their family and friend with them for support.

The 4,5 Valahnúkur trail is ideal for anyone wanting to sprint, jog or walk this panoramic trail in Þórsmörk.
